It is aimed at myofascial trigger points (MTrP) which are hyperirritable spots in skeletal muscle that are associated with a hypersensitive palpable nodule in a taut band. Trigger point dry needling can be carried out at the superficial or deep tissue level.

Therapeutic tapping (kinesiology tape, rigid tape, semi-elastic tapping)-

  • kinesiology tapping- Kinesio Taping Method is a therapeutic tool utilized by rehabilitation specialists in all programs (pediatric, geriatric, orthopedic, neurological, oncology, and others) and levels of care (acute care, inpatient rehabilitation, outpatient, home care, and Day Rehab). the modality used in pain management, soft tissue injury, tissue and joint malalignment, edema, and more. Kinesio Taping Method utilizes four types of Kinesio Tax Tapes, each with specific properties designed for use on fragile, sensitive skin or applied with higher tensions.
  • Rigid tapping –Relief rigid strapping tape is a very superior supportive tape that stabilizes joints during physical activity in all conditions. It adheres strongly and reliably even under heavy strain and has high tensile strength. It is highly effective in both preventative and rehabilitation taping techniques.
    • Semi-elastic tape- It is commonly used to treat or prevent muscle and joint-related injuries such as sprains and strains and tendinitis. Elastic taping has been designed to encourage the body’s natural healing process by providing support and stability to affected muscles and joints.

Cupping therapy

  • Normal cupping-
    • Cupping therapy is an ancient form of alternative medicine in which a therapist puts special cups on your skin for a few minutes to create suction. People get it for many purposes, including to help with pain, inflammation, blood flow, relaxation, and well-being, and as a type of deep-tissue massage.
    • There are some types of cupping that we provided-
      • FIRE CUPPING
      • Needle cupping
      • Dry and wet cupping

IASTM (with the instrument and without the instrument)-

  • Instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization (IASTM) is a skilled myofascial intervention used for soft-tissue treatment. It is based on the principles of James Cyriax cross-friction massage.

It is applied using instruments usually made of stainless steel with Beveled edges and contours that can conform to different body anatomical locations and allow for deeper penetration. It is used for the detection and treatment of soft tissue disorders.

A proposed description for IASTM is “a skilled intervention that includes the use of specialized tools to manipulate the skin, myofascia, muscles, and tendons by various direct compressive stroke techniques”.

Sports therapy benefits in athletes –

  • Prevent Athletic Injury
    • Wrong techniques during training may result in torn ligaments, muscle injuries, and even broken bones. A sports physiotherapist can assess your strengths and limitations and design a customized training program. The information acquired is used to map out a routine that may reduce the chances of you developing strains, stress, muscle cramps, or torn ligaments.
  • Immediate Pain Relief
    • Some physically aggressive sports such as rugby and football may require instantaneous pain-relieving measures for the players. Physical therapy techniques such as hot and cold packs, taping of damaged parts, and dry needling may help keep the pain at bay. Physiotherapy relieves muscular tension by targeting the source of pain before the athlete is taken in for more tests. Rapid pain treatments help reduce reliance on opioid drugs for pain management among athletes.
  • Treatment for Athletic Injuries
    • While sports physiotherapists may do everything in their power to prevent injuries, accidents do happen. Contact sports injuries are usually more severe and may even require surgery. However, as part of treatment, physical therapists can also create a treatment plan that guarantees a speedy recovery at a lower cost. A recent study shows that physical therapy cuts patients’ costs by almost 72% as most injuries are treated without the need for specialized surgery.
  • Relaxation
    • A cool-down after a long day on the field is just as important as a warm-up. Sports physical therapy is crucial for athletes as it helps them unwind after a strenuous workout. The unwinding allows the athletes to relax their muscles, regain energy, and have an overall healthier body.
    • Physical Strength
      • Some sports such as boxing require athletes to develop physicality to tolerate the blows involved during the competitions. A physical therapist can help you strengthen ligaments, joints, and muscles. It can also help you improve your performance and reach your full potential. With enhanced physical strength, you can withstand high physical stress during matches.
    • Muscle and Joint Flexibility
      • Joint flexion is a critical component in assessing an athlete’s potential. Almost all sports require a degree of flexibility, with the demand varying based on each sport’s needs. Increased flexibility is vital in achieving optimal performance, especially for swimmers and gymnasts. A flexible body may also prevent injuries from occurring.
    • Cardiopulmonary Benefits
      • Physical therapy may have additional advantages, such as enhanced cardio fitness. The recommended training programs might include cardio workouts that play a crucial role in improving your endurance and breathing patterns. The cardio exercises also contribute to the overall well-being of the athlete.
    • In Conclusion
      • The application of sports physiotherapy is limitless with a host of benefits. Regular exercises can help athletes to revitalize their bodies and keep them fit. Physical therapy in sports also helps maintain muscle strength, flexibility, balance, and posture, all of which are geared toward achieving optimal performance.
